Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

On Tuesday my class went to the Botanical Gardens. Me, Tara, Isabel Roke was with Isabel’s dad. Isabel’s dad let us go wherever we like. We wanted to see everything but we didn’t see the eels. We made a worm farm. I cleaned really good. When I was finished cleaning up it looked good. By Madeleine.

Making pizzas

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas. 

Telling the time

I am learning to tell the time. I had to move the hands to show the time. It is tricky to find the numbers.

Recognising contractions

I am learning to recognise contractions. I am proud that I can learn them and find them in my book. One contraction is it’s. That is short for it is. It is tricky to know what the words are sometimes.

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

I Am Learning About Root Words.

I can find a root word and I can make more words using different endings - s, ing, ed.

"I am learning to find root words.  I can find lots of root words in my book.  I can make lots of different endings too."

Writing Progressions 1P:
I am learning to

• add some detail to my writing
• choose words to make my writing more interesting

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like writing about my mum, going on holiday and with my mum's friends.  I can use the word cards and sound out the tricky words.  I can put a full-stop at the end of my sentence."

Maths Term 3

I am learning to add and takeaway numbers to 20.

"I can count using my fingers and the 100's board.  Sometimes it's tricky and I have to slow down and count carefully.  I like maths."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!

Reading Term 2

I am learning to identify question marks, exclamation marks, full stops, commas and capital letters.

I am learning to use a simple plan for my writing.

I can draw a picture about my story to help me when I am writing.

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

  I can look at the first letter and make the sound.  I can look at the picture to help me too.

"I like reading my books to Kirsty at Kids Korner.  I can read to my mum too.  I can say the sound to help me say the word or I can look at the picture too."  Madeleine

I am learning to match the number, the word and groups together from 1 to 10.

" It was tricky to match the cards because there were lots of them.

Term 1 Water Safety

We have been learning to go under the water to pick up the rings.

"It was tricky trying to grab the rings because I had to hold my breath.  

My favourite part is monkey-walking around the pool.  I like swimming."  Madeleine

Butterfly Art

We used Kid Pix to create our backgrounds.  

We used black marker pen and dye to colour in our butterflies.
